5th Barcamp Tamale centers on the role of education in youth empowerment

Image
The very first time I visited Tamale was when we had the first  +Barcamp Tamale  in 2011. We drove in a convoy of 2 cars, it was such a great journey. I went with my brother  +Kofi Ulzen-Appiah ,  +Mac-Jordan Degadjor ,  +Jojoo Imbeah ,  +Ali Bukari Maiga ,  +Carl Nutsugah ,  +Allswell Abbey  and  +Fiifi Baidoo . The then version of  +Google Developer Groups  in Tamale was instrumental in organizing the event. Awesome people like  +Ken Kubuga   +Stephen Agbenyo  and co were involved. This Saturday, the 5th Barcamp Tamale happens. Over the years, I've seen the tech and entrepreneurial community in Tamale grow and various people within it take on bigger responsibilities and projects and thrive. And this community is so networked and supportive of each other. Our  +GhanaThink Foundation  impact in Tamale has been great. I'm proud of what we've done. I will not be at Barcamp Tamale 2015 as I have to...

The first time I went to Tamale was for +Barcamp Tamale 2011. Ever since then, I always look forward to visiting again. When there is the opportunity to meet the young movers and shakers, the young changemakers, doers and entrepreneurs there, it is a huge added bonus. That's what Barcamp Tamale is about. If you are in or around Tamale, you can't miss this event on August 23rd. If you can't be there, tell someone who can. Stay tuned to the hashtag #bctamale. Kudos to the organizing team of +Mohammed Muntasir Nashiru   +Yakubu H.Yakubu   +Kwaching Jessica   +maccarthy lomotey   +Enoch Robot Boy Appiah Junior   +Peter Awin  with the able support of +Leonard Hagan   +kofi yeboah   +Kobe Subramaniam  and the +Barcamp Ghana  team of the +GhanaThink Foundation . Building Responsible Citizens For Ghana - Barcamp Tamale 2018

Image
I have been speaking about Responsibility all year. Barcamp Tamale is on it. See this tweet , that tweet , and another tweet . I was just in Tamale for the Ghana Youth Social Entrepreneurship Program - also run by GhanaThink , see #GYSEP2018 . I'd be in Tamale again for #bctamale ! Join us! It is a well-known fact that every successful country was built by responsible patriotic citizens. Countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Rwanda and many more, will not have successful stories to share today, but for the dedication and commitment of responsible citizens who work earnestly to contribute to National development. The Ghanaian youth have many challenges yet have the opportunity to transform these challenges into opportunities for Ghana to tell a better story in the future. This however, will remain a dream if the youth are not equipped with resources to aid this transformation process. A crucial element required for this is ‘Mindset Change’. Ho...

Growing a connected and attractive entreprising market in Tamale and beyond

Image
+Barcamp Tamale  2013, the third  +Barcamp Ghana  event in Tamale, came off at the Tamale Sports Stadium on August 17. A day before it, a couple of pre-Barcamp events were organized in conjunction with a  +Google Africa  sponsorship - a Google Developer tools workshop led by  +GDG Ghana  and a Google Business Networking event led by  +GBG Ghana  in Tamale. The main event was themed - " Growing a connected and attractive entreprising market ". The focus was on ensuring that people in Tamale and the Northern Region at large were more connected and that the area was more attractive to local and outside entrepreneurs. +GhanaThink Foundation 's " Less Talk, More Action" Polo T-shirts were premiered at this event and were received very favourably. This motto has since become popular and is becoming a bedfellow to "More vim". The emcees  +Ato Ulzen-Appiah  &  +Donald Ward  led a short discussion on Tamale and what'...

Expanding the Junior Camp Ghana project via Kalpohin Senior High School

Image
We have Ketasco students to thank for the formation of the  +Junior Camp Ghana  project. This project is to guide and mentor senior high school students in Ghana to give them insight and guidance on their academic and career ladders. You can read about the story of the first Junior Camp held at Keta Senior Technical School and it happened here . This event would borne out of what some Ketasco students (especially +nathaniel ALPHA ) saw while attending  +Barcamp Tema  &  +Barcamp Ho . It happened on January 30, 2013. The next one happened on July 13, 2013. In a school you would have never guessed. Kalpohin Senior High School in Tamale. Yes, I didn't know of this school until this year either. Big ups to  +Naomi Selorm ,  +Seyram Freddy Ahiabor  and the  +Barcamp Tamale  team for making the event happen. After the success of Junior Camp Ketasco , the GhanaThink Foundation was looking for opportunities to do other Juni...

National Volunteer Day 2025 united volunteers in service all across Ghana on and around 21 September 2025 - #NVDay2025

The GhanaThink Foundation today celebrates the spirit and impact of National Volunteer Day (NVDay) 2025 , a nationwide volunteer mobilisation held on 21 September 2025 and supported by a broad coalition of youth groups, NGOs, schools and corporate partners. NVDay 2025 activities were widely shared across Facebook, Instagram and X under #NVDay2025 and coordinated through event listings on the GoGiveTime platform. This coincides with International Volunteer Day (IVD) under the theme "Every Contribution Matters". “The future of Ghana depends on the actions we take today. The best way to predict the future is to create it. Less talk, more action.” — Ato Ulzen-Appiah , Director, GhanaThink. National Volunteer Day is organised by the Ghana Volunteer Program (GVP), an initiative of GhanaThink Foundation. The Ghana Volunteer Program was born on 5 December 2013 , marking International Volunteer Day that year. GVP matches volunteers to volunteer opportunities. It continues to op...
