Barcamp Takoradi 2025 networks many of the best of the West’s youth

Join a network of change-makers, doers, and entrepreneurs at #BarcampTakoradi 2025 where you can learn, share, network, konnect and be mentored. This free networking forum is happening on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the Shippers Council Conference Hall, Takoradi from 9am-4pm. It is themed: Impact | Innovation | Quality. Barcamp Takoradi 2025 follows 120+ Barcamps organized primarily by the GhanaThink Foundation as part of the Barcamp Ghana program.

Dora Agyapongma Ampaabeng was introduced to Barcamps in 2014 through Herbert Achempong who she befriended via Curious Minds. She decided to take advantage of the social enterprise (GhanaThink) to get to know people. Her first Barcamp was at Takoradi Technical University (formerly Takoradi Poly) and she enjoyed speaking to people with diverse opinions. In an interview with Y 97.9 FM, she stated: “Right after that, I became a volunteer with the logistics team. Everything around GhanaThink taught me the need to volunteer and give back, it broadened my knowledge in other fields and helped my public speaking skills”.  During her university education at UCC, she led the Barcamp Cape Coast team for 2 years. Upon her return to Takoradi, she became the #bctdi Logistics Lead and took over coordination from Portia Sekyibea Ofosu in 2025.

Franklin Baidoo Amoah first heard about Barcamps through a radio interview. The radio conversations about the event were interesting and so he decided to attend the event with some church friends of his also because they had planned to step out but had no particular place to be; knowing that there'll be snacks and lunch on the day, that was it for them. He stated: “For me and my friends, it was a time to go have fun and meet people. We got to the event centre a little bit late because we thought with the time given, they wouldn't necessarily start on time but no! Barcamp wasn't like that. It had started and the Hall was almost full. Barcamps always start on time and that's a great attribute of the team”.

His business - Orthios Select (a fashion brand) - partnered with Barcamp Takoradi in 2024. This grew and expanded his reach in the Western Region and beyond. BarCamp Takoradi 2025’s partners include Clean Air Fund, Naa Sika, Duapa Werkspace, IO Photos, Abapa Mfonyigraphy, Y 97.9 FM, etc. Participants take advantage of the breakout sessions organized by these partners.

Ernest Eghan’s Barcamp journey began in 2015, thanks to his best friend, Marian Clara Adeaba. He stated: “She introduced me to this wonderful family and the GhanaThink Foundation. What started as simple curiosity quickly evolved into a life-changing experience that has spanned several years and fostered countless connections”. He continued, “Each Barcamp I've attended has deepened my understanding of leadership, innovation, and service to community and volunteerism. I have been inspired by stories of resilience, mentored by industry leaders, and empowered to take bold steps in my personal and professional life. The energy, ideas, and solutions that emerge from Barcamp sessions have shaped my work as a Trainer and Consultant, especially in youth development, social impact, and entrepreneurship”.

Participants have the privilege of meeting resource people from diverse backgrounds that share enough vital information to guide them through their entrepreneurship journeys, etc. The mentors Franklin spoke to later became part of his clientele and from time to time to communicate on other issues of interest. Franklin is currently the #bctdi Resources Lead, in charge of getting mentors for Barcamp Takoradi. `They mentors are professionals who are Resourceful, Experienced, Accomplished and are of great Leadership skill (REAL). They are from diverse backgrounds including Information Technology, Security services, Arts, Banking and finance, Health, Media, Fashion, Youth activism, Entrepreneurship, etc. The impact of Barcamp Takoradi over the years speaks for itself; from participants gaining in depth knowledge on career, learning from experienced professionals in business, networking, job opportunities, etc.

Since 2024, Ernest Eghan has been the #bctdi Marketing Lead. He mentioned: “I look forward to once again being part of this energizing and enlightening family. I expect to engage with innovative minds, discover new innovations and initiatives, and learn how youth in the Western Region (especially Sekondi-Takoradi, Tarkwa, etc) are creating change in their communities. After nearly a decade of being involved with the Barcamp community (GhanaThink network), I can confidently say it is one of the most impactful youth-centered platforms in Ghana. I am excited for the next chapter and look forward to Barcamp Takoradi 2025 as a space for growth, connection, and community building”. Franklin Baidoo Amoah expects participants to arrive at the venue early as usual to network and make enough contacts as they can. Participants should follow keenly for updates on confirmed mentors and plan questions to ask and engage the mentors based on their interest. “My highlight is the team from other regions visiting. Which region has the highest team members visiting this year. Let’s see!!!” - Dora Agyapongma Ampaabeng. “For Barcamp Takoradi 2025, I look forward to meeting innovators and young people who are ready to change the world in their own small way. I am looking forward to young people who are willing to change their mindset and grow to become impactful in their society.
