Recapping CITI's FM December to Remember Concert with tweets

M.Anifest came to do " some way bi " things. Footprintz paved the way for Bisa Kdei as they joined to do ' Jackie Appiah '. Bisa then showed us Azonto would live even after it dies with Azonto Ghost, notwithstanding Metanfo and that everywhere he is, it's an Azonto Fiesta , so just ' Give it to Baba '. The international fisherman , Gasmilla, came in with a canoe to do Aboodatoi and take his 3 points . Guru came and put on a show without DJ LiWin , performing Lapaz Toyota , Mmaakuo, etc and doing the Alkhayida dance and all. Boys abrÉ› ! Yea, I had missed some great performances. But I wasn't going to miss the whole December to Remember concert organized by +Citi97.3FM . It was around this time, that I settled into my seat and then started tweeting and dancing away. Enjoy reliving the experience. So you made to December to Remember #d2r2013 , well done. If you're lost for where else to go this xmas, follow @PartyCrewGH . #partycrewgh — Ato Ulz...

December to Remember concert - Twitter the revisitor

I was supposed to be singing " Obi nka s É›  24th k É”  wo kurom " on December 24th as I made my way towards Kumasi to spend the holidays. However, I spent a little too much time working earlier that day that by the time I was going to head to Kumasi, it was a bit too late. That's when I made the decision to go to  +Citi97.3FM 's December to Remember concert - #D2R2013 . I sought a ticket and then got one. I was exhausted for reasons I can't remember that evening so I took a nap. I woke up and spent more time blogging. It wasn't until I heard  +M.anifest  had gotten onto the stage that I proceeded to go to the Accra International Conference Centre more seriously. I picked up a friend of  +Seyram Freddy Ahiabor 's, himself and some short bread for  +yorm ackuaku  and we were headed to #D2R. We arrived and were welcomed by +Mawuli Tsikata  who handed me a ticket and  +Donald Ward  who handed Seyram one. "Tweet plenty and write a ...

While watching & listening to Ilizwi, I appreciated Mzansi's musical voice(s)

Image
After a successful couple of days of the SHAPE Africa conference , various Global Shapers attended a jazz musical concert at the Nedbank Auditorium in Cape Town. I was hoping to see a famous South African musician perform. Yvonne Chaka Chaka was there. No, she didn't perform, she was in the audience like us. She's also a member of the World Economic Forum . We were all attending Ilizwi, a musical. South Africans are such great singers and I always said that I wanted to find myself singing in the streets of Soweto with people one day. I'd be dancing the gumboot dance in addition. Ilizwi is a musical production by the Casterbridge Music Development Academy. It's directed by Vuyo Jack and Ingrid Wylde. Learn more about  Ilizwi here . Ilizwi means " voice " in Xhosa. The musical told a great story and found a way to incorporate many popular South African classic (songs). Here are a few tweets I posted to capture what was happening At a jazz musical call...

I am a Toofan fan too: Got to go to Togo!

This wasn't quite a Togolese weekend, but then again Togo's independence day was April 27. While browsing my Gabonese friend's Facebook page, I discovered that one of Africa's top music groups, Toofan, were going to be performing in Accra at a concert . Cool Catch eh? We were going to have a dose of Togolese music in Accra. Blog post material be that. But first, I said Togolese duo Toofan is performing in #Accra tomorrow. C'est bon! Obragada! On va vous deloger! youtube.com/watch?v=oz9vzW… Way to go! #togo — Ato Ulzen-Appiah (@Abocco) April 25, 2013 Watching Toofan music videos has made me realise I might have forgotten how to "dance". I can only do some two-steps & #azonto these days. — Ato Ulzen-Appiah (@Abocco) April 25, 2013 After getting to the concert, it struck me. I was going to hear a lot of French (that I didn't understand). Was a good opportunity to learn a few more French phrases et al. There were so many Francophone Afri...

Kojo Antwi Maryland concert review (Museke)

Image
I was in the DC, Maryland, Virginia area in late July for an event and took the opportunity to see Kojo Antwi in concert again, which was organized by Special Kay Entertainment. I had already seen him at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi during the 2009 Christmas period. I was excited to see him in concert again but his music is great and evergreen. The show was scheduled to run from 10pm to 4am, because Kojo loves to leave it late. Late he did, he was on stage at 1am and performed for 3 hours. Till 4am! Even some of the concert goers got tired and went home and Mr. Music Man kept on going like an energizer bunny. He's truly the maestro. Before Kojo was on stage, a couple of Ghanaian music acts preceded him. Koby Maxwell performed his popular tunes like Abiba and I'm aware while Papa Shee performed Koyon so, Ate pa, Atadwe amongst others. While introducing Kojo Antwi, the emcee said, "One of the most famous musicians from Ghana" in reference to Kwadwo. I thought th...

P-Square Bay Area concert review (Museke)

Image
I happened to catch the Okoye brothers , arguably Africa's best musicians, performing for the first time earlier this month in Oakland. The concert was organized by Eugene Entertainment at Historic Sweets Ballroom and the resident dj was my boy, Deejay Slim. I knew P-Square were one of the best performing African music acts and they lived up to the billing. They performed for two hours, gave out free t-shirts, cds and posters and even some of the things they were wearing. The girls were going crazy, and the guys were enjoying themselves. Definitely one of the best African music concerts I've been to. As they sang in their song, Danger - "If them dey talk our agenda (agenda), Make them go check our calendar (calendar), Na different countries we dey enter (enter), From January to December, Omo, wahala dey". P-Square was on an American tour which had seen them already go to Los Angeles. I had heard the LA show flopped because they were only on stage for less than a hour...
