Extra with Petra - Achieve more

Image
Was January 2025 very long for you? I met a nurse this month, after I gave her a free ride from Adenta to Danfa. She said she could not wait for December 2025 to come. This is because she cannot wait to finish her studies. I believe she is in the minority. I want the days to go slowly because I have so much to do. But if there is a good reason for the days to go fast , it is because you are expecting some money to hit your account, and that day should come faster . If you want more money to hit your account, you have to work to achieve more. This is where I introduce you to Achieve, an app by Petra that I have been using to save and invest money. The  Achieve App  was just named as one of the winners of the World Summit Awards 2024, alongside other Ghanaian apps - Chango and Khaya. Shout outs to Kofi, Chris, Seth, Huzaifa, Daniel , and all those involved in Achieve.  In years past, Ghanaian startups like  Leti Arts ,   Bloom Impact ,   Farmerline , an...

Discussing Dambisa Moyo's Dead Aid - the way forward

I was checking my favorite news feed source yesterday - Africagoodnews.com . Yes, the name is self-explanatory. They try to aggregate good news about Africa. One story which struck me was that 5 Africans had been named in Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of the Year 2009. I was not surprised to see President Paul Kagame in there, I just blogged about him a few days ago. The other name that struck me was Dambisa Moyo's. I thought to myself, this lady is doing it big. Her 'Dead Aid' book is probably the most important book written by an African in the last few years, and no, it is not a novel. Dambisa and Paul are joined by William Kentridge,(South African artist), Hadizatou Mani (Niger), Barbara Hogan (South Africa's current health minister). Congrats to all these individuals and may they spur us all on to become as influential. I want to dwell on Dambisa Moyo , her Dead Aid book and the chatter it has generated at the water coolers in the blogosphere. I ...

Ghana needs to win something at the Olympics

Image
The Olympics is totally the biggest sporting event. Some may argue for the World Cup, but even though the Mundial is grand and is centered around the passion of the nation (aka football), all other sports have some different fans who pay attention to the Olympics. For instance, I have a couple of friends who could care less about football but will stop work to watch Michael Phelps and the 100 metre sprint. I didn't catch the opening ceremony, it's always the greatest spectacle of celebration. Ghana's contingent was very small and they were clad in kente. I've heard people complaining about the choice of attire, about how kente has been accepted by the greater Black community and we can't claim it anymore. Nonsense! People should know we are the originators! :-) The Ghanaian contingent held their own, you can't miss us, we are colourful and we stand out. I was very disappointed the Black Meteors failed to make it to the Olympic soccer tournament. We have a lot of...
