Reflections, goals, progress, ambition - 2024 and hopefully very soon after

I do major reflections every year. Too much to do every year to be reflecting generally more often than that. Memories? That's easy. Weekly . It is that time again for reflection, as 2024 ends.  I have always said I have ambition . But I think my ambitions are more of trying to do things differently, or different achievements, or being a maverick in a good way ( coming to a blog post near you ). I used to set New Year Resolutions, but I have not done so much in recent years. I rather try to set goals of what I want to within a year or a couple of years. I did not achieve a lot of my goals for 2024 sef. They say life begins at your Ruby Jubilee (40).  Health Chale, we want to live long and be doing what we have been doing as lone as possible. Health is paramount. I have been promising myself to exercise more. I have, but it is nowhere near where my doctor or wife wants me to be. We would get there. 1 of my goals was to buy a bike which I would ride around while listening to ...

The #AskAto story - in conjunction with Vodafone Ghana

Director at the GhanaThink Foundation which mobilizes and organizes talent for the primary benefit of Ghana. #AskAto pic.twitter.com/yXSLI4zhh6 — Vodafone Ghana (@VodafoneGhana) July 15, 2014 My friend +Ivy Enyo Nam  had approached me about being featured in a series that Vodafone Ghana was going to undertake. The working title was #PowerfulPeople. This is the message I received from them - Based your influence within the Ghanaian community on Twitter. We will like to officially invite you to interact with the Vodafone Ghana social media platforms (especially twitter) under the topic “ Using Social Media for Good” . This happened on Tuesday 15 th  July, 2014. It was to be between 12pm-1pm,  a Q&A session on Twitter with hashtag #AskAto . It was hoped that I would answer all questions directed at teaching Vodafone's followers, amongst others how to use social media more effectively. Well, 1 hour turned out into much more. I had so many question...

My Facebook Look back & life

Facebook is 10 this year. Great stuff. I'm a huge fan of Mark Zuckerberg. I've loved using Facebook but never considered working there like I did for Google (and ultimately did). I was watching the Social Network movie just the other night. Awesome cinema. I didn't join Facebook as soon as I knew about it. Took some months to do so. It's been a great ride. Facebook has had its issues but I've loved it. I've made many friends there, some of whom I've never met but are really close with. Below is a video looking back at my Facebook life. I love that one of the first pictures I have up is of the Akwaaba lady. At some point in the video, it centers on the new Barcamp Ghana sticker logo. That's so appropriate. But erm, maybe that happens because that was and still is my current profile picture? hehe. Post by Ɔdadeɛ Ato Ulzen-Appiah . I used to put up so many pictures on Facebook. Ever since I came to Ghana, I've not been a fan of that. I ...

Cc  @PartyCrewGH — Ato Ulzen-Appiah (@Abocco)  March 1, 2013 P-Square's Chop My Money remix has been our anthem for a while. Our favorite part is "pushaa" where we kick out our legs. I did it once in Akosombo and caused small commotion with a fall. More controlled kicks coming up. I just did a kick out "karate style" as  #pushaa  was sang out of the Chop My Money song aka  #Partycrewgh ...

I am a social animal . I love partying and partying hard. It must have something to do with liking to hang out with people and loving listening to music. I party with different crews and cliques. My regular partying crew had been chilling for a while and then because we are people who just like to get things done took the partying more seriously. So PartyCrew GH was formed. Still not sure what we are doing with it, we have many grand ideas actually. I also promised myself to party less this year. Actually club less, party more . Anyway, I wanted to share a few tweets chronicling my party story for this year so far and the places I've been. Pick up a few places to visit when you're there. And we have a  Facebook page , a  Twitter account  and a  +Party Crew  Google+ page. Like, follow and add it. You'd find party pleasure if you've lost it. Next time, someone says they are lost in Accra (or elsewhere in Ghana) as to where to party, tell them to follo...

Giving to the Lords Arm Christian Home & Foster Care in Teshie, Accra

Image
In December 2006, Ronke Ampiah , Farida Alabo , Felicia Hanson , and co started a project called Smiles For Christmas where they got friends to donate gifts, items, provisions and cash to kids in a Ghanaian orphanage. I joined them to Orphanage Africa in Dodowa. Later in 2008, I remixed their efforts to do Smiles For New Year where I joined others to donate similar items to kids at King Jesus Charity in Boadi. Today, I joined Nehemiah Attigah and a few others to do a similar deed at the Lords Arm Christian Home & Foster Care in Teshie. Today's episode touched me a whole lot more and I have been more driven to act around helping orphanages and foster care homes. I hope to be involved in more efforts like this in 2013. At the Lords Arm Christian Home & Foster Care in #Teshie , #Accra with @ attigs @ ahiabor @ eokyere @ qwophicedi and others. #PalmSunday — Ato Ulzen-Appiah (@Abocco) March 24, 2013 Nehemiah created a Facebook event inviting us to this. In looking for a name for one blog post, I found another blog post :-)

So I blogged about a story which involved me giving a free ride to a lady and her dad - from the Accra Mall to MJ Grand in East Legon. I was having trouble choosing a title for the blog post so I decided to ask my Twitter followers and Facebook friends to help me out. Yesterday I gave a young lady & her Dad a ride from the #Accra mall 2 MJ Grand. I have blogged about it but I need a title. Any suggestions? — Ato Ulzen-Appiah (@Abocco) March 11, 2013 My friend Courage got in on the party saying "The Free Ride". That would have been really appropriate . It really carried the message of the blog post but it was too short and generic. @ abocco THE FREE RIDE — Major Courage (@couragedarling) March 11, 2013 DJ Kobbie continued and we were really having fun with this. I didn't ask the lady for her name though I asked for the father's. Kobbie named her Daisy only after he wondered if this had gone bad because they might be strangers. And he thought I cha...

How do we get Yaa Asantewaa onto the big screen?

Image
Happy Women's History Month! This marched into our lives before we knew it and then I started thinking a lot about Yaa Asantewaa. In fact, nothing speaks more of Women's History as dominantly as the story of the one-time queenmother of Ejisu. She is a symbol of a leading lady, having led the Ashanti people against the British in the War of the Golden Stool. I've discussed the legend of Yaa Asantewaa and how it should be in a movie many times, notably with the GhanaThink community. Paa Kwesi got us started when he revealed his infatuation with epic movies . When I started celebrating Ghanaian movies, I championed the idea again. and it made me ask questions about Yaa Asantewaa. I posted " Me, am waiting for a Yaa Asantewaa movie o! " on Facebook. And then, this happened. Sangu Delle ,   Mirian Diop   and   Rita Afrakomah Nketiah   like this. Deji Ojo   Dude! Have u been reading my mind for the past 3 months? I even sent Spike lee a ...
