I've heard a lot of Senegal's DJ Awadi and how he is talked about a lot when it comes to African hip-hop. We've seen a lot of conscious and meaningful hip hop come out of Senegal and Awadi's Positive Black Soul deserves a lot of the credit. Awadi's recent album, Presidents d'Afrique (African presidents) was released in 2010, the same year many African nations celebrated their golden jubilees of independence. Awadi took us back to the 60's and told us those messages of unity, positivity, leadership and revolution still ring true today. It's been very difficult for me to write this particular blog entry. It's about the Facebook presidency campaign. Some of you might have cross it searching for me on Facebook, invited by a friend (not me), or seen it in Google results about me. On the one hand, I don't really want to be a president and thought writing about this group will only fuel rumours that I am actively looking to stage a run in the future. Some of you have seen me battle with leadership through these entries anyway. On the other hand, talking about this campaign could be taken as a publicity move to get more people to join my self-serving Facebook campaign for President. I was at KSM's Nifty @ Fifty concert held in Accra in December 2006. I recorded a bunch of videos and the ones I am posting on the blog today are about politics. KSM is arguably Ghana's best stand-up comedian and if you haven't seen him perform live, you are missing out. Well, not exactly, because with friends like Youtube, we can all revel in KSM's talent and artistry. :-) First, he prays for a funky president. I couldn't resist this. Ghanaians, I am sorry. After praising Paul Kagame as an entrepreneur president and salivating over Jacob Zuma's dancing skills, this is what I have to say about Asomdwoe hene Professor John Evans Atta Mills. John Atta Mills became the third consecutive Ghanaian presido called John on January 7, 2009 after edging Nana Akufo Addo in the slimmest of margins. Since then, there hasn't been much he has done to forecast what his presidency will do for Ghana in the next four years. If I have missed this, please let me know. But when many Ghanaians talk about him today, it's about his 'slip of the tongue' sayings when he delivered his first sessional address to parliament. A lot of people are wary about South Africa under a Jacob Zuma presidency. If you have followed Zuma's life, you know he's been in the news for many wrong reasons. I haven't seen anyone mention his dancing exploits though, I guess that's not 'good news' enough. I know I praised Paul Kagame as an entrepreneur president but calling Zuma a dancing president is not a knock on him. It's a feather in his cap. Jacob Zuma is a man of the people. I just discovered a video of his sharing the stage with South African artistes - dancing. The man can move! I wish I had a president who could dance like him.
