National Volunteer Day 2025 united volunteers in service all across Ghana on and around 21 September 2025 - #NVDay2025

The GhanaThink Foundation today celebrates the spirit and impact of National Volunteer Day (NVDay) 2025, a nationwide volunteer mobilisation held on 21 September 2025 and supported by a broad coalition of youth groups, NGOs, schools and corporate partners. NVDay 2025 activities were widely shared across Facebook, Instagram and X under #NVDay2025 and coordinated through event listings on the GoGiveTime platform.

This coincides with International Volunteer Day (IVD) under the theme "Every Contribution Matters". “The future of Ghana depends on the actions we take today. The best way to predict the future is to create it. Less talk, more action.” — Ato Ulzen-Appiah, Director, GhanaThink.

National Volunteer Day is organised by the Ghana Volunteer Program (GVP), an initiative of GhanaThink Foundation. The Ghana Volunteer Program was born on 5 December 2013, marking International Volunteer Day that year. GVP matches volunteers to volunteer opportunities. It continues to operate a central registration and activity hub to support organisers and volunteers. NVDay has grown since 2013 with different types of volunteer activities, strengthening volunteer organizations like Rotary, Rotaract, Lions, Leo Clubs as well as birthing NGOs and other social impact organizations and groups. Since 2013, National Volunteer Day has mobilized over 10,000 volunteers nationwide.

Media Engagement & Impact

The celebration garnered significant media attention, with featured interviews on Citi 97.3 FM's Citi Breakfast Show and Channel 1 TV’s Breakfast Daily. Irene Dery (Barcamp Ghana Resources Lead) spoke about some GhanaThink members like Eleanor Asare (The CSR Hub), Sampson Deklu (#ThousandFor100) and Kuukuwa Manful (Sociarchi) who built and strengthened their social impact organizations through NVDay. Timothy Amuah (Barcamp Tema Coordinator) and Gideon Nana Asmah (Barcamp Cape Coast Coordinator) in these interviews also shared about how the general public could volunteer, aside the various #NVDay2025 activities.

Social media engagement exploded under hashtags #NVDay2025, #Volunteeringh, #NVDay #GoGiveTime, and #CleanAirGhana, amplifying stories of impact across Facebook, Twitter/X, and Instagram.

On the occasion of International Volunteer Day, Kofi Larbi (GVP Team Lead), led some media engagements, including on the Diamond Drive in Tamale.  “NVDay 2025 demonstrated the power of coordinated youth action,” said Kofi Larbi.

2025 & Next Steps

GhanaThink partnered with GoGiveTime to centralise event registration, volunteer matching and public promotion for NVDay 2025. The partnership aimed to streamline sign‑ups, improve visibility for grassroots events and capture volunteer data for follow‑up training and recognition. GhanaThink plans to onboard volunteers who work with its local teams on Barcamps and other initiatives, while encouraging more institutions to leverage GoGiveTime.o
