Accounting for Experiencing Design Thinking

At the Stanford SEED Centre in Accra, here for a design thinking workshop. Ready to learn. Maybe blog this later too. :-) — Ato Ulzen-Appiah (@Abocco) October 17, 2013 Today, I participated in a design thinking workshop at the Stanford Institute for Innovation in Developing Economies (SEED) centre in Accra . It was organized for Rancard which is one of the companies in the first cohort. I am working at Rancard now (yea, long story, will share that with you later). Ehi Binitie , my boss and one of Rancard co-founders, has been a huge fan of design thinking this year and ensured people he worked closely with got to appreciate the same. So about 10 of my Rancard colleagues and 5 of our friends from our clients (mobile network operators) joined for this workshop. Bill Scull , who has a lot of experience in Business Development with companies in the Silicon Valley , is one of the coaches based in Accra now working some of the companies in the first SEED West Africa cohort. Barka de Sallah! World Food Day features food from the Savannah!

Wednesdays are extra exciting for me, because... yes, you guessed right.. it's that day that rhymes with my favorite meal - " Waakye ". The food that sells out faster than any other the whold wide world. So on my way to work, I passed by my favorite place to buy waakye these days, to get some and make today a Waakye Wedensday . The X-Roads spot at the Nyaho junction to the train tracks was not opened. " É” redi Sallah" was the message I was given. I drove to the next spot where I normally buy waakye from and voi la, she had also taken an extra holiday. Eish, when +Mohammed Muntasir Nashiru  and  +Ibn Shiraz  mentioned that the real Sallah party was Wednesday, I hadn't thought that would mean waakye was going on strike... So I tweeted .... #Waakye sellers seem to be on holiday in Accra o! Barka de Sallah. #WaakyedeSallah ? #WaakyeWednesday 's in jeopardy. #waakyecrew , help please — Ato Ulzen-Appiah (@Abocco) October 16, 2013 +Michael Ocansey  was ...

Yesterday, I joined the Rancard team on a corporate outing to visit the Holy Trinity Spa in Sogakope in the Volta region. It's about a 2 hour drive from Accra. Loved being there . Before we get into the tweets, let's learn about the 10 pillars of health. Some #OleleFacts to prove Olele is Old. Ole!

Many of you might know Richard Kingson as Ghana's goalkeeper at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. There are many great images of him. He's not been Ghana's first choice goalkeeper for a couple of years now. Recently, he was called back into the Black Stars set-up and many fans are not happy with this, thinking he is too old to still play great football. This has led to the creation of many jokes about how old Richard Kingston aka Olele is. These have captured all over social media with the hashtag #OleleFacts. There is even a Twitter account called @OleleFacts. This phenomenon has also been featured on BBC. Wanna know what the fuss is about? Read these tweets below. According to history, Olele's first words were "You must be Adam, welcome to the Garden of Eden"  #oleleFacts — Our Favorite Fugitiv (@Naa_Achere)  August 27, 2013 +Achere Buxton  gets us going again. So Olele was either the first man or really is an angel living amongst us. Your pick. E...

None of the #OleleFacts is greater than those needed to get Ghana to the World Cup

So Richard Kingson got called up to the Black Stars after some years away from the team recently. Many Black Star fans have said he is too old to play for the Ghana national football team. So the jokes started and #OleleFacts has been born. Here are some of the best ones related to football, which is what he was famous for in the first place.  Olele has played in four generations of the Black Stars #OleleFacts pic.twitter.com/RxMSHqFyZT — Francis Ahlidza (@fahlidza) October 1, 2013 He sure has been around for a while. If John Mensah is the rock of Gibraltar (23.3% of the time), then Olele is the rock of Ages. #oleleFacts taken with a pinhole camera , look for him pic.twitter.com/H3snvq7RPY — Our Favorite Fugitiv (@Naa_Achere) August 27, 2013 Olele likes being in pictures. One of them is very old...the other is Nelson Mandela. #Olelefacts pic.twitter.com/1eMFz05Dmd — DiDi (@itsDiDi) October 4, 2013 Nelson Mandela was 95 this year. "When Olele got to c...

Today's revelations, tomorrow's memories - the massage story

Today, I had a revelation . It's better to have a massage on a Thursday after a tasking working day than on a Sunday after you've chillaxed a bit. I blogged about the first massage I had from Revelations as part of a more encompassing post . and today here's another. But yeah, when I finally go to Angola, I will make sure to get a massage administered by some linda babe. In the meantime, Ima enjoy some in Accra more seriously. For some reason, I think kizomba is the best music to listen to when getting a massage. So I listened to some of the songs today. Let me share a few with you, go get them (or play them on YouTube) next time. Magico by Mika Mendes. Vai dar bum by Ary. Quadradinha by Yola Araujo. Te quero bue by Bruna Tatiana. Coisa doida by Adi Cudz & Yola Araujo. I've realised one question many masseuses ask is "Are you okay?" After the umpteenth time today, I had to wonder a wonderful response. What's the best response to give ...
