Ghana enjoyed the partial solar eclipse experience papa

At exactly 1.22 p.m. today, November 3,2013, Ghana and other parts of West Africa experienced a partial solar eclipse. Thanks to news houses like +Citi97.3FM, we knew all about it before hand. The phenomenon, described as “the romance between the Sun and the Moon,” started at 11.38 a.m. and lasted until 1.22 p.m. In the run up to this, many Ghanaians looked for the special shades to watch the eclipse because you couldn't see this with your naked eye. I wasn't very interested so didn't bother to get one. But Ghanaians took this eclipse thing "World Cup" when it comes to cracking jokes about it. That's what this blog post will cover.

But before we get into that, the Ghana Planetarium organized a special event to view the Solar Eclipse today. Folks learnt about what causes an eclipse, and experimented with different ways to SAFELY (keep track of this word) view the sun and the eclipse. There will also be hands-on activities, science experiments, art and craft and more!! Me, I watched it on GTV. They had a professor who knew a whole lot about astronomy helping run commentary. Good stuff.

While all this was happening, Ghanaians were at it, cracking many jokes with this whole thing. Pictures of how people were viewing the eclipse flooded whatsapp, and I don't know if guys actually went out and bought eclipse gifts. I found a few on Twitter and wanted to document this :-)
This particular one actually drove me to do this blog post. Too hilarious! +Efo Dela, you be guy! +Ali Bukari Maiga, thanks for the tweet :-) Some folks even talked about Youth in Eclipse Watching (YEW) as a GYEEDA module.
I am marking this thing that +Ebenezer Gwumah is saying because I could easily see this happening.
+Mutombo da Poet is one of the funniest guys I know.
+watsuptek Cmm chipped this in. I also saw this on Whatsapp in our +Party Crew group - Somewhere in Kumasi, a radio presenter is screaming 'aircrips ,aircrips'on air. Meanwhile in Accra, a Ga man is pointin to the sun amidst shouts "Hairclips Hairclips". Both are trying their best to pronounce only one word - ECLIPSE.
I discussed this series of tweets with +Seyram Freddy Ahiabor +David Nikoi +Qwophi Cedi & +Kofi Ulzen-Appiah today and we concluded that Ghanaians like fooling too much and making jokes out of many issues, many of which are sometimes serious issues. So when I was being interviewed by storyteller +Kristin Pedemonti tonight about various things and there was a question about what I would like people to know about Ghana, I said something that could be contained in this tweet to which she agreed --->
