Something Inside So Strong by Lira

My favorite album right now is whichever selection of Lira songs I am playing in the #vimride these days. Talking of vim, none of Lira's songs gives me 'vim' quite like this one -

The version I listen to a lot (and on repeat) is the live in concert version, which includes the audience reaction and people singing along, with the backing vocals and all the lovely instrumentals. The version you would listen to here is lovely but it just doesn't do the song justice like this one does. So, go get that album - Captured Tour (A Concert Film). I have a signed copy of the CD and then the DVD too.

So I decided to write a blog post sharing the lyrics. You can find the lyrics for the original in many places, but you can find the lyrics to Lira's version in a few places. And now, here, on the MIghTy African blog.

The higher you build your barrier
The taller I become
The farther you take my rights away
The faster I will run
You can deny me
You can decide to turn your face away

Promoting National Volunteer Day (September 21st) #NVDay

Earlier this year, we at the GhanaThink Foundation had an idea. What if we could get many people in Ghana to volunteer on the same day with a unity of purpose to make Ghana better? We've gone many iterations of how to get it done and we are almost there. The date we chose was September 21. It's interesting to note what % of people in Ghana actually know it's Founder's Day.
On September 21, different people in Ghana would be organizing or participating in volunteer activities. You can find out more info about these here. Stay tuned to #NVDay on Twitter, Facebook and Google+. Watch the video promoting it and see our press release below.

Many thanks to +Estelle Akofio-Sowah+Antoinette Benneh+Nana Amoah and Nana Aba Anamoah for participating in the video. I was surrounded by some awesome Ghanaian women :-)

National Volunteer Day is being instituted by the +GhanaThink Foundation to come off every September 21st in Ghana. The initiative is to get as many people as possible in…

Join me to teach kids at King Jesus Charity Home in Kumasi on September 21 #NVDay

I've been to the King Jesus Charity Home in Boadi, Kumasi a couple of times to talk to the kids there and donate some provisions to them. Here's a blog post I wrote after going there in 2009. This next time, I will be volunteering to teach them some skills to help them become smarter. It's lovely to know some people I've not even met yet will be joining me.

I am gathering some people as part of +Barcamp Kumasi's activities for this year to volunteer for a day. We'd be at the King Jesus Charity Home on September 21st.
