#MoreVim: #MightyAfrican & More's Motivational Mantra

Hey folks, it's your friendly neighborhood Mighty African here, tapping away from the heart of Accra. It’s a Monday, which starts with the letter M. I start all work weeks with More Vim, and hopefully some of you do too. You see, this whole "More Vim" thing I've been sprinkling everywhere? It's not just a catchphrase; it's basically a cheat code for life. Today, let's unpack this vim vibe in a chill, conversational way. Less talk, more action? Nah, today we're talking about the action fuel itself. #MoreVim, anyone?

At the post-Barcamp Bolga 2025 meeting this past weekend, my buddy Seyram Ahiabor who is also the Head of Online for GhanaThink said, “Ato is a well-oiled machine”. Honestly, it's all powered by vim—that vigorous energy, that extra push when the dumsor hits or the deadlines pile up. I didn't invent "vim," but I've Ghana-ified it into "More Vim," turning it into a mantra for me and many around me,

Digging through my old posts (because who doesn't love a good archive dive?), "More Vim" started showing up thanks to Barcamp Ghana related things. Circa 2008. These are GhanaThink's flagship events where we gather young folks to network, share, learn, and be mentored. "More Vim" meets "More Action, Less Talk." It's all about ditching the excuses and diving in. Take my Monday motivations on X on a Monday like the one I am penning this blog post: "More vim! More vim for you Monday!" It’s also my way of kicking off the week like a Black Stars goal—energetic, unifying, and a tad triumphant.

"More Vim" isn't just for the big wins; it's for the everyday hustles. Post-accident health check? "Clean bill of health... #MoreVim for that." Cheering on a journalist like Manasseh Azure Awuni? "More vim for your work, Manasseh! You're a #GreatGhanaian." Even when I'm celebrating startups at the Kosmos Innovation Center where I work: "More vim Agro Ease!" It's versa-tile, y'all—like that Swiss-army knife you never knew you needed. And in my "#233moments" series (shoutout to Ghana's country code), it's the perfect punctuation: "Past 2:33pm in #Accra... New week, new month, too many things to get done... More vim!"

In a cultural neighbourhood where youth unemployment is still a huge canker and infrastructure does not get the needed political will in a place others, unlike me, call a crime scene, "More Vim" is our subtle (or not-so-subtle) nudge for resilience. It's tied to bigger dreams: African self-reliance, ethical leadership, and turning talk into tangible change. On Africa, borrowing from Barack Obama, I have always said "We're the ones we are waiting for... More vim to us all." On celebrating Africa Day with a holiday weekend vibe, I drove at more vim for unity of Africans (and the African Diaspora). I blogged about how to say "Let's go" in other African languages, with #MoreVim in mind.

#MoreVim has been turning my countless solo jargons into a community jam session. There have been #MusicWeDeyFeel songs composed called More Vim, Triple Vim, and others like Aha yɛdɛ, etc. The next time, you hear people saying “More vim” or “vim” or spelling it as “more vhim”, remember the history and the importance of this movement. When jamming with each other around, be drinking Vimto!

At the end of the day (or of this blog post), "More Vim" is our philosophy around: harnessing that inner fire for the collective good. Whether it's volunteering through Ghana Volunteer Program driven initiatives, pushing for clean air with #CleanAirGhana, or just surviving a Monday, it's about being part of the solution, not the pollution. When I was honored as African Male Youth of the Year in 2018, that was just vim in action. So, what's your more vim story? Drop it in the comments, tag me on social media, or better yet, go out and create some. Less scrolling, more vim-ing. #MoreVim to you all—let's make Ghana and Africa unstoppable! 🚀
